Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County (Habitat Bucks) will break ground on four new single-family homes, on adjacent lots, in the borough of Morrisville. Entitled Woodland Park, on Woodland Avenue, these homes will pave a much-needed path to homeownership for hardworking families. The community is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony at 209 Woodland Ave. in Morrisville on October 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Talayia, who lives in Morrisville and works in NJ, will move into one of the homes with her three children. Talayia’s current rental is in major disrepair, so when she learned that Habitat was offering homeownership in her hometown, she quickly applied. Her future mortgage payment will be similar to her existing rent—for a brand-new house that she will help build. Evita and her two children, who are currently living doubled-up with family, will move into another of the four new homes. She works full time and is also taking classes at a local college. High rent prices prevent Evita from living independently. Evita believed that homeownership was out of the question for the same reason, too costly, until she found Habitat. “We are laying foundations that can last for generations and change a family’s trajectory,” said Florence Kawoczka, Executive Director of Habitat Bucks. “Stable, affordable housing improves the health and well-being of the whole family and leads to better educational outcomes for vulnerable children.” According to the Bucks County 2010-2014 Consolidation Plan, far too many people in Bucks County are spending more than 30% of their gross income on housing costs, which by definition, is housing cost-burdened. In addition to building homes, Habitat Bucks also makes affordable repairs to help homeowners maintain the integrity, accessibility and safety of their homes. Since 1990, Habitat Bucks has made affordable homes or home repairs available to more than 168 families. Longtime supporters and lead sponsors of the Woodland Park project include Whole House Partner, Penn Community Bank; Cornerstone Partner, Parx Casino; along with Bank of America, Dumack Engineering, First Bank, Lemus Construction, and Univest. “We believe the availability of affordable housing is a key factor in building a community that thrives. That is why we are so glad to support the efforts of Habitat Bucks, and we look forward to helping these new families become proud Bucks County homeowners,” said Penn Community Bank President and CEO Jeane M. Vidoni. Our entire staff is passionate about our commitment to the mission of Habitat, and Parx is proud to share our success with the community,” said Parx Casino Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Ron Davis. The final home of the Woodland Park project is designated to be FAITH BUILD 2019, breaking ground in April of 2019, providing an opportunity for diverse communities of faith to come together to build a home with a local family through prayer, volunteerism and financial support. All are welcome. About Habitat Bucks: Founded in 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County’s mission is Building Communities, Empowering Families. Since then, it has built or fully renovated 113 affordable homes in Bucks County through its Homeownership Program, which provides an opportunity for low-income families to build strength, stability and self-reliance by partnering with Habitat.
