Rich Aichele never passed up an opportunity to serve. He served his country, with four years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force and 35 years in the Air Force Reserves. He served his fellow man, spending six years as executive director of the Keystone Opportunity Center, helping those in need to become self-sufficient. And he served his community, on the capital committee for the Lutheran Community at Telford, on the board of directors of the Bucks County Housing Authority, and on the board of directors of Penn Community Bank. On April 5, Penn Community Bank was honored to receive an award from the Keystone Opportunity Center in the name of Aichele, who passed away in December 2017 at the age of 69. The new award honors a local business which is making a major difference in the community through the Keystone Opportunity Center’s food, housing and education programs. “Rich Aichele devoted his life to serving others. He understood the good that we all can accomplish, if we work together,” said Jeane M. Vidoni, president and CEO of Penn Community Bank. “We were honored to have Rich’s vision and leadership on our board of directors, and we are deeply grateful to Keystone Opportunity Center for honoring us with this award that bears his name.” Keystone Opportunity Center presented the first-ever Richard Aichele Award to Penn Community Bank to recognize the bank’s financial contribution in honor of Aichele in 2018 which went on to fund the relaunch of the Family Literacy Program in 2019. The program addresses the literacy needs of the entire family through integrated adult education, early childhood education, parent education, and interactive parent/child literacy activities. The program has been shown to increase children’s test scores and enables parents to be long-term partners in their child’s education. “Rich’s leadership and dedication to serving others were an inspiration to all who knew him,” said Keystone Opportunity Center Executive Director Arlene E. Daily. “It is only fitting, then, that we present the award that bears his name to Penn Community Bank, in recognition of the bank’s leadership and dedication to serving the community.” Based in Souderton, the center’s mission is to educate, encourage and empower community members in need to become self-sufficient. The award was presented during its annual Spring Banquet at Indian Valley Country Club. The annual event is the organization’s primary fundraiser and featured a silent and live auction, dinner, and award presentation.
