2017 Regional Computer Fair Features the Talents of Bucks County Students Hosted by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit On March 30th, 113 students attended the 2017 Regional Computer Fair hosted by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (Bucks IU) at their facility in Doylestown. Middle school students attended from Neil A. Armstrong Middle School, FDR Middle School, and Carl Sandburg Middle School while high school students represented the Bucks County Technical High School, Middle Bucks Institutes of Technology, and the Quakertown Community High School. Participants competed in at least one of the following six categories: Animation, Computer Fair Logo, Digital Video, Graphic Design, Programming, and Web Page Design. In advance of the event, students were provided details regarding the projects requirements and the specifics of what was to be included, along with a rubric regarding the judging. The information included elements such as themes, specific formats or programs to use, finished pieces or materials and how they must be presented, etc. Teachers were to lend guidance and support through the process and sign-off on the project once completed. Upon arrival at the Bucks IU, students were assigned areas where they could set-up their projects and the required support materials. To allow for the judges to have time to evaluate each project, the students assembled in a separate area where they participated in two hands-on activities that provided a unique opportunity to work in cross-teams of middle and high school students. Once the judging was complete, awards were announced for the top three teams in each category at both the middle and high school levels. The first-place team in each category is then eligible to compete at the state level competition being held May 23-24, 2017 at Dickinson College located in Carlisle PA. The Bucks IU congratulates and celebrates all the participants for their creativity and inspiring efforts, and wishes our Bucks County regional winners the best of luck at the State Computer Fair.
