Event Description:
Internet Safety Workshop
Tuesday, December 6th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
QCSD partners with area agencies to present internet safety workshop
Quakertown Community School District and community agency personnel want area children to be safe online. For the second year in a row, they will present a workshop to help parents keep their children safe. The Tuesday, December 6th workshop is called, “World Wide… WAIT A MINUTE! Internet Threats and How to Keep Your Family Safe Online.” It will run from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bucks County Free Library on Mill Street. It will address concerns for children of all ages.
QCSD librarian & one of the presenters Rebecca Kelly said, “As students have more opportunities to utilize technology inside and beyond the classroom, we all have a responsibility to help them make responsible decisions with online resources. These organizations have come together to help educate parents and the community with ways to keep their families safe while online.”
Presenters from the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, Bucks County Free Library, Quakertown Police Department and Upper Bucks Chamber of Commerce will join Kelly. The coalition of agencies is called “Community Connect.”
Research showed that preteens and early teenagers educated on the importance of Internet privacy through school, parents, or the media were more likely to practice online safety than those who weren’t. Among teachers, peers, and parents, parents were the most influential in delivering that education.
