PBS39 will broadcast the CH Foundation's 6th Annual Athlete of the Year Awards beginning at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. The event will be held at the ArtsQuest Center on the SteelStacks campus in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Seth Joyner, former linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles, will be the keynote speaker. PBS39’s Tracy Yatsko and NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Derrick Gunn will be co-hosting the event. Coverage will kick-off from ArtsQuest’s “Orange Carpet” at 6:45 p.m. followed immediately by the Athlete of the Year Awards from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. “PBS39 is excited to give the Athlete of the Year Awards the recognition it deserves,” said Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer at PBS39. “Our broadcast signal reaches more 12 million viewers and this live stream has the potential to reach a brand new audience. We are proud to partner with the CH Foundation in honoring these future leaders of our community.” The 6th Annual Athlete of the Year Awards is the culmination of the 2018-19 Athlete of the Week scholarship program, which is administered in partnership with The Morning Call and sponsored by Coordinated Health. Each Coordinated Health Athlete of the Week (male and female) recipient receives a $500 scholarship and is then eligible for the Coordinated Health Athlete of the Year Award (male and female) of an additional $10,000 scholarship each. The region’s top 70 high school student-athletes will be in attendance along with parents, coaches, athletic directors and community leaders. Award winners will be receiving $35,000 in scholarships and vying for an additional $20,000 in scholarships, should they be chosen Athletes of the Year. This year PBS39 will also present the first-ever PBS39 Community Support Award to a local business. “We are extremely pleased to be working with PBS39 to broadcast and stream this year’s Athlete of the Year Awards,” said Ron Ticho, President of the CH Foundation. “We could not think of a more dynamic communications platform to recognize the achievements of our region’s top student-athletes than through the Lehigh Valley’s public media station. The CH Foundation is committed to supporting local students to serve as future leaders in our community and no organization is more committed to civic engagement and fulfilling the regional needs of the Lehigh Valley than PBS39.” Watch live on PBS39 or PBS39.org. Visit PBS39's program guide to find the correct channel number on your cable or satellite provider. This event is open to the public. General admission tickets to the event are $15 per person and can be purchased online on the CH Foundation's website.
