Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County’s recent fundraising gala raised $125,000 to support Habitat’s homeownership and home repair programs that benefit local families. The 225 guests at the gala heard from Tina Grady, a Habitat homeowner who shared her inspiring story of grit and how her family fulfilled their dream of homeownership – from living in a hotel to building a Habitat home with space for their five children and granddaughter, as well as an accessible bedroom and bathroom for their son. “This family was overwhelmed by the help of volunteers, donors and community partners who gave so generously to make their new house possible,” said Florence Kawoczka, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County. “The home is the symbol of their hard work, patience and courage in the face of adversity.” MC’d by Jeff Devlin, host of five HGTV and DIY Network TV series, the event also honored two of Habitat’s dedicated community partners, Wells Fargo (Partner of the Year) and Woodside Church (Spirit of Habitat Award). Unique to the Hard Hats & High Heels auction were items that were transformed into unique furnishings thanks to professional interior designers and decorators who upcycled gently-used furniture and household goods provided by the Habitat for Humanity ReStores. And, just as the ReStores turn donations from generous and environmentally conscious individuals and business into dollars to build homes for families, each of these one-of-a-kind creations also raised funds to build homes. “We are grateful to our donors, staff, volunteers, and community members for making our annual fundraiser such a success,” said Mike Keim, President of Habitat Bucks’ Board of Directors. “Their support makes it possible for us to continue providing homeownership opportunities and home repairs that are affordable for our neighbors in Bucks County.” Lead Sponsors include: Diamond Hammer: Ethicon, Penn Community Bank, Wells Fargo Platinum Hammer: Parx Casino, Dumack Engineering, Johnson & Johnson Gold Hammer: Curtin & Heefner, LLP, Klehr Harrison Harvey Branzburg, LLP, LENNAR, Liberty Coca-Cola, Penn Wealth Planning, LLC, QNB Bank, Univest Financial Photo caption: Habitat homeowner, Tina Grady, who shared her inspiring story, is pictured with Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (right) and Habitat Construction Director Mike Fallon (left).
