Over 100 volunteers, both young and old, took part in last week’s Faith Build event, working together to build the walls of a Habitat for Humanity home for a local family. Woodside Church sponsored Help Build Hope’s powerful hands-on house-building opportunity where volunteers from numerous faiths constructed walls for this Habitat home in Woodside Church’s parking lot. The walls were then transported to Morrisville where they will become the home of Damian, Joanne and their two young sons. The family currently shares a small, two-bedroom apartment above a meat shop in NE Philadelphia. Not only is the apartment cramped, but the boys have to sleep with their parents to avoid the heavy smoke coming into their apartment from their neighbors. This family is looking forward to a healthier space to live in. About Habitat Bucks The mission of Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County (Habitat Bucks) is, Building Communities, Empowering Families. Habitat Bucks has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to volunteer to lend a helping hand. The Habitat Bucks Homeownership Program provides an opportunity for low-income families to build strength, stability and self-reliance by partnering with Habitat. Habitat homebuyers also contribute a minimum of 200 hours of sweat equity toward the construction of their homes. Since 1990, Habitat Bucks has partnered with 115 households in Bucks County for homeownership. Our low-cost Home Repair program makes home repairs such as porch repair and installation of wheelchair access ramps, and interior home modifications to help individuals remain safer in their own homes. Revenue from Habitat ReStores provides a source of sustainable funding for the construction and repair of homes.
