March 6, 2019 - Doylestown PA: Today the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (Bucks IU) hosted over one hundred school and agency leaders in Doylestown to pro-actively address future planning related to the flu and coronavirus. Personnel attending were from multiple counties and represented thirty-four different schools, school districts, Career Technical Centers (CTCs), Intermediate Units, and regional agencies. Today’s event allowed staff from job-alike positions to share and openly discuss issues related to the current flu and coronavirus situation, with the goal of developing action items and considerations they could utilize as they refine or develop their own action plans regarding this growing concern. “The Bucks IU proudly acts as a regional hub for conversations and the sharing of best practices for schools and community leaders. During this time, we felt it was important to schedule an opportunity for school leaders to come together to have conversations,” stated Dr. Mark Hoffman, Bucks IU Executive Director. Today’s sessions were based on the following areas of interest and focused on the noted job-alike attendees: Cleaning Best Practices - for Directors of Operations, Directors of Facilities, Directors of Transportation, Directors of Food Service, etc. Human Resources & Business Operations - for Directors of Human Resources, Business Administrators, Benefit Administrators, Payroll Supervisors and Managers Student-Related Considerations / Pupil Services / Assessment - for Directors of Special Education, Directors of Pupil Services, Directors of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Assistant Superintendents, Supervisors, and Principals Nursing/Student Health – for School Nurses, Supervisor and Directors of Nursing Services, Directors of Special Education and Directors of Pupil Services Communications - for Directors of Communications/Public Relations Dr. Hoffman described the importance of the sessions stating, “The Bucks IU was pleased to host this event and provide experienced meeting facilitators for these important discussions. It is critical during this time that school leaders are able to come together to share ideas and collaborate on planning. Our collective goal is always to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community.” The meeting structure is already being mirrored in like sessions scheduled for elsewhere in the state for next week. The Bucks IU is sharing their meeting notes and summaries with all of today’s meeting attendees and welcomes discussions with any others planning similar events.
