Raymond Slifer, a senior from Quakertown Community High School, has been named the Student of the Month for September at the Upper Bucks County Technical School (UBCTS). Raymond has been enrolled in the Machining Technologies program for the past three years. Raymond is a Cooperative Education student trainee employed by Bracalente Manufacturing Group, Trumbaursville, PA. He is a tool room technician and has received all excellent evaluations from his employer He has also excelled in the Machining Technologies Program earning the OSHA 10 Safety Certification and several NIMS (National Institute of Metal Working Skills) Certifications. He was named a member of the National Technical Honor Society and most dedicated Machining Technologies student. He has also competed and placed at SkillsUSA machining competitions at the district and state level. Raymond contributes to the community by serving as a junior fire fighter for the Richlandtown Fire Company and a junior assistant scout master for Troop 87. He has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Raymond is currently enrolled in the UBCTS/ Bucks County Community College Technical Entrepreneurship Program. Upon graduation he will attend Pennsylvania College of Technology and major in Manufacturing Engineering. About Machining Technologies In this program, students use high tech tools and equipment to shape raw materials into precision components used in the production of mechanical devices. Students learn to apply relevant mathematical calculations, interpret engineering drawings and CAD data, use precision metrology equipment, plan machining processes, specify tooling and equipment requirements, use machining equipment (including manual and CNC equipment) and apply metallurgical processes. Machine tools include computers, lathes, drill presses, grinders and milling machines. Students may enter the field as a machinist, seek a registered apprenticeship, or pursue a college degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering About Upper Bucks County Technical School UBCTS is a public high school serving the students in three Upper Bucks County School Districts. Those districts include Palisades, Pennridge and Quakertown. Students benefit from specialized career programs that give them a competitive edge in college and career. Approximately 800 students in grades 9-12 are enrolled in twenty-one Pennsylvania Department of Education approved technical programs. Students participate one half day at the career and technical school and one half day at their sending district where they receive the balance of their academic courses. The mission of UBCTS is to educate students for successful careers and to inspire lifelong learning in a challenging and changing global economy.
